Cape High’s Benitez winner of American Legion Post 90’s Oratorical Scholarship Contest
American Legion Post 90 in Cape Coral recently hosted the annual High School Oratorical Scholarship Contest, which is open to 9th through 12th grade students.
The winner was Amanda Benitez, a senior at Cape Coral High School, who received a score of 92 from the four judges.
Benitez went on to win first-place at the District level in February and placed second in the Legion Area competition in Port Charlotte.
The program is essentially a “Constitu-tional Speech Contest.” The objective is to instill a better knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States in high school students.
Also, it helps develop leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak as well as an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship.
