FMPD PAL boxers ranked nationally by USA Boxing

The Fort Myers Police Department’s Police Athletic League has announced that four of its boxers have been ranked in the top 10 of their weight classes by USA Boxing which is the national governing body for Olympic-style amateur boxing.

The four members of the boxing academy include Terry Sanders, 12 years old, ranked #1 at 106 pounds; Nathan Martinez, 14, ranked # 9 at 114 pounds; Coldin Belilies, 15, ranked #7 at 101 pounds ; and Nicholas Ortiz, 13, ranked #5 at 90 pounds.

“I would like to congratulate these athletes for their accomplishments and acknowledge the whole team for being great teammates and great leaders,” said PAL Boxing Coach Jose Ojeda.

USA Boxing is based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and overseen by the United States Olympic Committee and the International Boxing Association. The FMPD PAL organization is an important part of Chief Derrick Diggs Community Engagement Initiative to bring sports programs to young children and teenagers.

The team is now getting ready for Western Qualifiers at the USA Boxing National Tournament to be held March 21-28, in Reno, Nevada.
