FORT MYERS – The Fort Myers’ offense exploded on Tuesday as the Miracle pounded the Jupiter Hammerheads 22-5 at Hammond Stadium.

Lance Ray led the hit parade, going 4 for 6 with a grand slam, a solo home run and seven RBIs. Steve Liddle went 4 for 5 with three RBIs and three runs scored, Angel Morales was 3 for 6 with three runs scored and Josmil Pinto went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

The 22 runs were the most scored by the Miracle in 2012. The previous high was 13 against Lakeland on May 7. The Miracle also set season highs with 20 hits and four home runs.

Ray’s seven RBIs became a new season high for an individual player in 2012.

Ray put the Miracle ahead 2-1 with a two-out, two-run single in the first, but he blew the game open in the third by belting a grand slam. Pinto added a two-run double in the third, which turned out to be a nine-run inning for the home team.

The Miracle continued to pour it on in the middle innings. Morales launched a two-run homer to center in the fourth, Danny Rams blasted a three-run opposite field shot in the sixth and Ray capped off the sixth with a solo home run to put the Miracle up 19-2.

Carl Pavano, in a rehab start for the Twins, pitched the first two innings. The only run he allowed was a solo homer given up to Marcell Ozuna.Madison Boer picked up the win. He pitched 4 1/3, giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits.

Five Hammerhead pitchers appeared in the game, most not finding success. Starter Chad James took the loss after pitching just two innings and giving up six runs.

Daniel Oliver gave up eight runs in two innings and Patrick Merkling was tagged for four runs 1 2/3 innings.

The Miracle and Hammerheadswill meet again on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
