By Staff | Aug 2, 2012

Cape Coral’s Senior Softball all-star team is headed back to the Little League World Series in Delaware later this week after knocking off North Carolina 9-1 Wednesday night at Fleishman Park in the Southern Regional championship game.

The team is making its second straight trip to Sussex, Del., for the World Series where they lost in the semifinals last year to Puerto Rico. Cape faces South Bend, Ind., the Central Regional champion, in the first game of the World Series at 5:30 p.m.on Sunday.

Maddy Peres pitched a complete game, surrendering one run on just three hits. She also slapped a three-run double to lead Cape’s offense. Alyssa Langdale and Megan Sullivan also contributed doubles in the multihit attack.

Cape won all five of its Southern Regional contests.

The World Series consists of three pool play games over four days before the semifinals on Friday and the championship game next Saturday.
