FGCU’s Cantinol to play pro ball in France
FORT MYERS – For-mer FGCU men’s basketball center Kevin Cantinol joined the professional ranks Friday, signing a contract to play for ADA Blois Basketball 41 of the NM1 League in France.
Cantinol is the second former Eagle to sign a professional contract in the last month. Reed Baker is currently in Bangkok, Thai-land, where he’s playing for the Cobras of the ASEAN Basketball League.
The 6-foot-10 center started 23 games over his season and a half on the court with the Green and Blue after transferring to FGCU from SEC member Ole Miss halfway through his sophomore season. Cantinol saved the best performance of his career for his final game, going for career-high 13 points on 6-of-9 from the field, six rebounds and three blocks off the bench in the Atlantic Sun championship game against Belmont.
Cantinol posted averages of 4.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 45 percent (102-227) from the field over his 54 career contests at FGCU. The French West Indies native totaled 93 offensive rebounds from 2010-12, grabbing at least one offensive carom in 42 contests, while adding 36 blocked shots. Cantinol scored in double figures eight times.
Last season, ADA Blois Basketball 41 finished fifth out of 18 clubs in the NM1 League regular season standings with a 23-11 record. Blois advanced to the championship game of the NM1 League playoffs, but fell to Etoile Charleville-Mezieres.
The FGCU Eagles are part of the A-Sun Confer-ence with six men’s and nine women’s Division I intercollegiate programs. Ticket information for upcoming events is available by calling 239-590-7145. Additional results and schedule information are available at fgcuathletics.com.
