Bowling debut in the books

Bowling made its Lee County varsity sport debut Wednesday as Mariner hosted Ida Baker and Cape Coral at Coral Lanes.

Baker took the boys’ match by earning the maximum 12 points to four for Mariner and one for Cape. Mariner won the girls’ match with nine points as Cape earned seven and Baker one point.

The Bulldog boys swept all five games, winning the opening tenpin game as well as the next four games in the aptly named “Baker format.”

Five Bulldogs combined for an 864 pins in the opener, led by Adam Causey with 181. Taylor France and Josh L’Hereux rolled matching 172s with Alfred Tasale 170 and Joe Marinello 169.

Keith Nicely, Eric Ryan and Braxton Siano contributed to the Bulldogs’ win by rolling two frames each throughout the Baker format games.

Mariner was led by D.J. Hower with 185, Jimmy Stafford with 183 and Quinn Mossey with 167. Justin Roland led the Seahawks with 157 and Daniel Baril added 143.

Diandra Cottman and Brittany Martin led the Triton girls to victory with tenpin scores of 125 and 123, respectively.

Vivian Gonring rolled a 148 to lead Cape to second place while Hannah Harvel topped the Bulldogs with 138.

Cape Coral, Dunbar and Island Coast square off next Wednesday at All Star Lanes while Lehigh, North Fort Myers and Baker assemble at Friendship Lanes. Mariner takes on Estero at Gator Lanes.

Swimming

At Fort Myers Aquatic Center: Oasis won its first meet of the season on the strength of taking first place in every event. Oasis garnered 130 points to down Canterbury with 101 and Evangelical Christian with 21.

Nicholas DeGuzman, Vincent Perstad and Alex Voll each won two events to lead the Sharks (2-0).
