The Cape Coral Ospreys, a men’s 70-plus softball team, returned with the AA division championship from the ISSA World Championships tournament at Manassas, Va.

The Ospreys were 1-1 in pool play and went 3-2 in the double-elimination series to win the title.

They had to play a AAA team, Nami Construction of New Jersey in the elimination round. The Ospreys lost to Nami 23-20, then beat Nami 20-19 in a second game. That forced a third game for the championship with Nami winning 17-1 to take the AAA title and giving the Ospreys the AA title.

Ospreys players included: Fred Hine, David Belbin, Robert D’Amadio, Willie Rodriguez, Ralph Becker, Ronald Cremo, Robert Klewicki, Donald Drown (selected MVP), George Barnes, John Schenk, Sherwood “Red” Hutcherson, James Farrell and manager Pete Cecchini.

Cecchini was awarded the Manager of the Year honor.
