Miracle hammered 7-1

By Staff | Aug 17, 2011

JUPITER – The Jupiter Hammerheads scored in four consecutive innings, storming to a 7-1 victory Tuesday night over the Fort Myers Miracle.

After tying the game 1-1 in the fourth inning, the Hammerheads tagged Miracle relievers for two runs in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Nate Woods rudely welcomed reliever Cole Nelson to the Minnesota Twins organization with a two-run, two-out single in the fifth.

Nelson (5-12) absorbed the loss. The 6-foot-7 lefty walked the first three hitters of the inning, then retired two Hammerheads before Woods put Jupiter on top 3-1.

Jupiter catcher Gregg Glime delivered RBI doubles in the sixth and seventh innings to add four insurance runs. Glime was 2-for-2 with three runs driven in, two walks and two runs scored.

Right-hander Alex Wimmers started for the Miracle for the first time since April. He was perfect through the first two innings, but allowed a run on two hits to finish the fourth before being removed.

Hammerhead starter Chad James (4-15) tossed five innings, scattering six hits and giving up just one run to earn the win.

The Miracle’s only run came on a bloop RBI single by Jamaal Hawkins in the fourth inning.

The Miracle (53-66, 19-31) face the Hammerheads (51-70, 19-32) again Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
