Miracle rally for 6-3 win

TAMPA – The Fort Myers Miracle put Thursday’s difficult extra-inning loss behind them with a 6-3 victory over the Tampa Yankees Friday night.

Evan Bigley went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a double, a triple, and an RBI. Deibinson Romero had a bases-clearing triple in the ninth inning to help put the game out of reach.

The Miracle (14-14, 57-40 overall) scored two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth to break a tie.

Santos Arias started for the Miracle and left with the lead after throwing five innings with two hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Joe Testa surrendered a run in 2 2/3 innings with two hits, three walks and five strikeouts. Testa (2-0) got the win as the Miracle came back.

Henry Arias recorded a save, his third, despite giving up two runs in the ninth.

The Miracle and Yankees meet for the final time in 2009 Saturday night at Hammond Stadium.

n Threshers 2, Stone Crabs 0: The Clearwater Threshers held on to beat the Charlotte Stone Crabs and snap Charlotte’s 10-game home winning streak.

Darren Byrd (3-3) combined with three relievers to shutout the Crabs on just six hits, just the sixth time they have been blanked this season.

Despite the loss, the Crabs maintain their lead in the FSL South Division standings by two games over the Miracle.
