Rain washes out Little League games
Cape Coral National hoped to build off the momentum generated from an opening pool play win. Both Cape Coral American Little League All-Star teams looked to rebound after being blanked in their opening games.
As it turns out, none of that was accomplished Wednesday since all of the Little League games were postponed due to heavy showers.
Cape National was scheduled to host Pine Island at Jason Verdow Park in the second round of pool play in the District 9 Tournament.
Cape National opened pool play with a 10-2 win over DeSoto Monday night. Right-handed pitcher Matt Richey worked 4 1/3 innings and the offense was sparked by Josh Feliciano’s three-run home run. They’ll play Pine Island Thursday.
Cape Coral American North and South appear to be in the stronger of the two pools with opponents such as Fort Myers American, South Fort Myers and Buckingham.
South FM knocked off Cape South 12-0 Monday, while Buckingham topped Cape North, 8-0.
On Thursday, Cape South plays at FM American and Cape North travels to South FM.
The 9-10 tournament has also been impacted by rain. Fort Myers American faces DeSoto Thursday in the final pool play game. It’s still unclear which four teams will advance to the championship series bracket.
Cape American North needed a victory over South FM Tuesday to increase its chances of moving on. They settled for a tough, 2-1 defeat.
Cape American South picked up its second win in dramatic fashion Tuesday, rallying for an 8-7 win over Cape National.
Cape National used the combination of walks and hits to score six runs in the sixth. They took a 7-5 lead in the back-and-forth contest.
Cape South rallied in their last at-bat. Matt Lord started the one-out rally with a bunt single. Zach St. Amand kept it going with his third hit of the game and an RBI.
With two outs and runners at second and third, William Sanger blasted a walk-off hit to right field, scoring Zach Crane and R.J. Schreiber.
