Firecats try out three kickers

By Staff | Mar 12, 2009

Three kickers were brought into the Florida Firecats’ training camp Tuesday, all on one-day waivers, to compete for a roster spot.

Garret Rivas, Gary Cismesia and Mike Adams each have ties to the state and own impressive kicking resumes.

Rivas played in four games for the Firecats last year. He played at Tampa Jesuit High School and the University of Michigan. He connected on 90 percent of his PATs with the Firecats.

Cismesia, former FSU kicker and Bradenton Lakewood Ranch High School graduate, is one of the most accurate kickers in FSU school history and ranks among the Seminoles’ All-Time leading scorers. Cismesia caught the attention of the Firecats coaching staff at an open tryout earlier in this year.

Adams, a former Daytona Beach Thunderbirds and Citadel Bulldogs kicker, attended Orlando Dr. Phillips High School. Adams brings arenafootball2 experience as the Thunderbirds’ full-time kicker in 2008.

The Firecats will hold their second scrimmage at 6 p.m. Thursday at Estero High School. Final cuts will be made after the team reviews film from the scrimmage, which is open to the public.

The Firecats open the regular season at Germain Arena March 21 against division rival South Georgia.
