FGCU women win 11th in a row
Adrianne McNally scored 32 points and Kelsey Jacobson hit for 21 points, both career highs, as Florida Gulf Coast knocked off the Kennesaw State Owls 88-79 Thursday night at Alico Arena.
The Eagles (20-4, 13-3 A-Sun) jumped out in front early, scoring the game’s first seven points. The Owls cut the lead to a single point at 10-9, but with 5:25 left in the half, Jacobson’s three put the Eagles in front 34-28. FGCU kept the lead around six, holding a five-point advantage at the half, 45-40.
FGCU had the advantage for the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the last 10 minutes were tight. Kennesaw’s Angie Smith knocked down a jumper with 9:30 left to cut the lead to 62-61 and Jennifer Baker’s three put the Owls in front 69-67.
Jacobson hit two free throws to tie the game at 77-77 with 2:46 to go and the Eagles held Kennesaw scoreless over the final two minutes.
The Eagles host the Mercer Bears Saturday.
