Firecats name new offensive coordinator

By Staff | Jan 14, 2009

The Florida Firecats on Tuesday introduced Clint Dolezel as their offensive coordinator for the 2009 arenafootball2 (af2) league season.

Dolezel played 13 seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL), most recently with the Dallas Desperados where he served as both the starting quarterback and the team’s offensive coordinator. He helped lead the Desperados to a 40-8 record over the past three seasons.

“I love the arena game,” Dolezel said. “I’ve been calling my own plays since 2001 and this is a great opportunity for me to keep doing what I love. Florida seemed like the perfect fit.”

Dolezel made a career out of setting records. He’s the AFL’s all-time leader in touchdown passes (931) and passing yards 44,559. He ranks second in career attempts (5,693) and completions (3,751). In 2006, he became the first player in the AFL to toss more than 100 touchdowns in a single season, finishing with 105. During the ’07 season he became the first player to lead an AFL team to a 15-1 record while also becoming the first pro-quarterback to throw 800 TDs. He beat that milestone last season when he became the first to throw 900 career TDs in any professional football league.

As a former scout for the Dallas Cowboys, he’ll help Firecats head coach Kevin Bouis recruit and evaluate talent for the upcoming season.

The Firecats hold their second open tryout Jan. 24 at Estero High School.

The Firecats kick off the regular season at Germain Arena on March 21 against the South Georgia Wildcats.
