Prep report: Bulldogs top Tritons 45-26

After suffering losses in the opening round of the Ida Baker Holiday Tournament, the host Ida Baker Bulldogs and Mariner Tritons hooked up Tuesday. It was the third meeting of the season between the crosstown rivals.
The outcome remained the same with the Bulldogs upending the Tritons for the third time, winning 45-26.
Senior Katelyn Glaser led the Bulldogs (5-7) with 10 points and senior Jessica Osegueda chipped in with nine. The Bulldogs built a 21-12 halftime lead.
Senior Chastity Carter paced the Tritons with 13 points.
In other tournament action, Palmetto Ridge defeated Lehigh 59-41, North Fort Myers topped Estero 65-42 and Reynoldsburg (Ohio) pulled away from Jupiter 50-23.

North and Reynoldsburg meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the tournament championship.
Boys Basketball
n Cape Coral 78, Kingstree, S.C. 77: It was another day and another thriller for the Cape Coral Seahawks playing in the Christmas in the Corner Classic in Charleston, S.C.
Justin Mitchell made two free throws with 1.8 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and the Seahawks eventually prevailed over Kingstee, S.C. in double overtime.
The Seahawks stayed composed despite poor shooting. They finished 2-for-24 from three-point range and 13-for-28 from the free throw line.

“These guys just have a little character to them,” Seahawks coach Mark Rinehart said of his team, which won 42-41 in the opening round.
There were plenty of key performers for the Seahawks (10-1), who advance to Wednesday’s championship game.
Joel Hill led with 25 points and nine rebounds. Wellington Tavarez had 15 points and Cameron Hall tallied 14 points and seven assists.
n Bishop Verot 68, Brother Martin 56: Led by Etienne Effenberg (27 points and 10 rebounds), Bishop Verot concluded play in the Atlanta St. Pius Tournament with a 12-point victory over New Orleans Brother Martin.
Jesse Kane and Brennan Melvin were key contributors for the Vikings (8-5), finishing with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Melvin also tallied 18 rebounds and six assists.

n Ensworth, Tenn. 92 Ida Baker 52: Baker was unable to keep up with Ensworth, Tenn. in the semifinals of the Naples Daily News Gulfshore Shootout.
Ensworth did most of its damage from beyond the three-point line, hitting a tournament record 17 three-pointers. In all, eight different players connected from beyond the arc.
John Skinner led Baker (8-5) with 20 points. Ron Ward had 17 and Zach Campbell added 14.
Baker concludes tournament play in the third-place game Wednesday against Barron Collier.
