Blades come together in two wins over Lynx
It’s definitely starting to come together for the Florida Everblades.
More proof came Saturday night when the Blades extended their winning streak to six games with a second-straight victory over the Augusta Lynx at Germain Arena.
The Blades won 1-0 in a shootout Friday and followed that with a more convincing 5-2 win Saturday.
The Blades had 94 shots combined in the two games.
“We’re finally starting to play the style I want them too,” coach Malcolm Cameron said. “The guys are really thriving off (my style of offense) which is using our speed and getting the puck in the corners. If we can’t score off the rush then get it in deep. We are quick and strong, we can possess the puck and create off the cycle.”
Defensively, Florida was just as stout. The Blades allowed only 41 shots on goal in the two games.
Special teams were also important. The Blades allowed no goals on the penalty kill and scored twice shorthanded.
“I liked the way that we were stingy on defense,” said Cameron, “I think the majority of (Augusta’s) shots came on the power play, which is (what I like to see).”
One of those who stood out was forward Ross Carlson.
Carlson was a force all weekend. On Saturday night he recorded the first hat trick of his career, including one shorthanded goal.
“I was just in the right spots and the bounces were going my),” Carlson said.
The Blades hope to continue their all-around stellar play as they embark on the second longest road trip in franchise history.
The Blades begin the road trip next Friday and Saturday when they visit Augusta for a pair of games.
