Both Baker cross country teams earn regionals

Zackary Stackhouse and Jessie Betts helped lead Ida Baker to second place Friday in the District 3A-6 cross country meet at Veterans Park in Lehigh.

Stackhouse placed seventh individually. Betts placed 10th overall. The Bulldogs were runner-up in the boys’ team standings behind Charlotte.

The top six teams and top 15 individuals, both boys and girls, advanced to regionals.

North’s Zachary Kovacik ran second behind Cypress Lake’s Trent Craig. North placed eighth as a team.

Cape Coral’s Blake Behr qualified for regional by finishing 11th.

The Seahawks just missed qualifying as a team for regionals, placing seventh, one spot out of the qualifying order.

North and Baker teams both qualified in the girls’ race. The Red Knights placed fourth and the Bulldogs fifth. Mariner came in eighth and Cape placed 13th.

Fort Myers’ Katie Russo won the girls’ race in a time of 19:56.38.

Among the Top 15 finishers were North runners Wally Rosario (sixth) and Chelsea Humbert-Llinas (10th), and Baker runners Darlene Hanlon (seventh), Amanda Kane (13th) and Jennifer Martinez (14th).

The Region 3A-3 Meet is next Friday at Estero Community Park.

District 2A-6: Bishop Verot qualified for the regional cross country meet by finishing fourth in the boys’ and seventh in the girls’ meets Friday at Estero Community Park.

In the boys’ race, the Vikings finished with 102 points, placing them behind first-place Immokalee (50), Estero (59) and Naples (90).

Jeremy Ploplis was Verot’s top finisher, placing fifth in 17:18. Teammate Sean Quinn placed 10th (17:34). Estero’s Erick Montoya was first overall in a time of 16:25.

The top six boys’ teams and top eight girls’ teams earned a spot in next Friday’s regional meet. The top 15 individuals also advanced. The regional meet also is set at Estero Community Park.

In the girls’ race, the Vikings accumulated 168 points. Naples was first with 51.
