Gators take bite out of Terriers

By Staff | Nov 1, 2008

MOORE HAVEN — The upstart Island Coast Gators (3-2) jumped on top of host Moore Haven (4-4) with 31 points in the first half, and they never looked back on their way to a 47-14 triumph Friday night.

“We were on them from the start,” Island Coast coach Joe Bowen concluded.

The impressive road win for the Gators guarantees at least a .500 finish in their first season competing in varsity football. They wrap up the season Nov. 14 when they host Ida Baker.

Sophomore Aaron Lynch was relentless in his pursuit, registering 6 1/2 sacks.

Sophomore quarterback Mike Dumas rushed for two touchdowns and sophomore running back Jimmy Stewart scored on a long run late in the second quarter.

The win comes after a heartbreaking 13-6 overtime loss to Lemon Bay last week. Bowen said the team, as a whole, worked hard in practice and responded to the challenge.

“The offense and defense came together,” he said.
