Verot walks over Neumann

By Staff | Oct 18, 2008

The Bishop Verot Vikings improved to 5-1 on the year (2-0 at home) with a well-rounded domination of the St. John Neumann Celtics 42-6 Friday night at Viking Stadium.

Verot took a quarter to get going, but quarterback Jake Kistel used two big pass plays just before the half to propel the Vikings to a 21-0 halftime lead.

Both the Celtics (2-4) and Vikings (5-1) went scoreless in the first 12 minutes. Vikings defensive end Jonathan Alvarez, who came in the game with two sacks on the year, quickly added to his total as he sacked Celtic QB Anthony Demeo to set the tone early.

Neumann tried to stick with the running game, but not with the help of Bishop’s star linebacker Michael King, who came in the year leading his team with 19 tackles. The Celtics were unable to string more than two first downs together in a drive.

Matt Timpanelli capitalized on great field position by scampering to a 31-yard touchdown run to put the Vikings up 7-0. Starting from the Celtics’ 44-yard line, Verot capitalized again on good field position with a two-play drive, capped by the 42-yard TD catch by tight end Forrest Campbell. It was Kistel’s fourth TD pass of the season and Campbell’s third TD reception.

In the second half, the Vikings had the momentum. A kickoff return by Jesse Kane helped land the knockout punch on the Celtics. Wide receiver Jamie Alvarez capped the scoring drive with a 19-yard touchdown reception.

The Celtics got their lone touchdown on a four-yard run by Ashley Radcliffe.

Verot hosts St. Pete Catholic next Friday night.
