Mariner rolls over Estero
A Triton is one of the mythological Greek gods of the sea. He is also a messenger, delivering across the sea with lighting fast speed.
On homecoming night Friday, the Mariner High Tritons delivered a message in a 43-0 win over Estero at Tony McKenna Field.
Everything went right for the Tritons (2-2) on their first drive as they advanced the ball to the Estero 1. They fumbled, giving Estero the ball deep in its own end.
A bad snap on Estero’s first play went out of the back of the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 lead.
After getting the ball back on a punt, the Tritons scored on a 35-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Gabriel Rojas.
Mariner stretched the lead to 15-0 on Eric Mitchell’s 75-yard run.
On Estero’s next possession, Mariner’s Nick Perone picked off Will Davis, leading to a 10-yard touchdown run by Rojas.
Mariner added to its lead when Rojas connected with David Tyrrell for a 16-yard touchdown pass. Already leading 29-0, Mitchell intercepted a pass late in the half and scored his second touchdown on a 15-yard run.
“I just wanted to come out and play my best,” Mitchell said. “I am glad we came out here and got a win on homecoming night.”
The Tritons are off in week five.
