Tritons sail past NFM 3-0

A record-setting performance from senior Brooke Albert Thursday night led the visiting Mariner High Tritons to their second volleyball win of the season at the expense of North Fort Myers.

Albert posted a single-match school record 26 digs, helping the Tritons come away with a 25-20, 25-12, 25-23 triumph.

The Tritons (4-5) also were sparked by seniors Bailey Keller and Emily Wincel. Kelley tallied nine assists and six digs. Wincel had six kills and four blocks.

Mariner joins Ida Baker, Cape Coral, Fort Myers and host Cypress Lake in the LCAC round-robin event Saturday.



Boys Golf



At Coral Oaks: Grant Burgess, C.J. Cricco and Braden Junkins each fired nine-hole rounds of 38 Thursday to lead host Mariner to a team total of 153, tying Estero. Dunbar also participated, posting a 239.

Estero’s Ryan Clase shot 35 on the par-36 course to earn medalist honors.

The Tritons (8-3-1) are gearing up for the North of the River Tournament which they host next Thursday at Coral Oaks.

They got an encouraging performance with four rounds in the 30s, including Kyle Schulte’s 39.

At Palmetto Pine: Ben McMahon and Airik Medinis shot 2-under 34s, leading unbeaten Fort Myers (11-0) past host Ida Baker, 141-166.

Justin Summerville turned in a 36, contributing to the Green Wave’s impressive performance.

Todd Mallorey led the Bulldogs with a 39 and Miko Dougherty posted a 41.

Baker (14-3) participates in the North of the River Tournament next Thursday at Coral Oaks.

At The Forest: Senior Chase Marinell finished with a 1-over 37 and the Vikings picked up a 27-stroke victory over Riverdale.

Along with Marinell, the Vikings got strong performances from Kevin Reynolds (37), Wyler Gins (39) and Steven Reynolds (40).

The Vikings (5-1) play a tri-match Wednesday at Cypress Lake Country Club against Canterbury and North Port.

At Coral Oaks: Madison Fletcher’s 55 paced Mariner to a 12-stroke win over Estero.

Megan Sewell had a 64 for the Tritons. Estero was led by Erin Roan’s 63.

The Tritons (1-4) play in the North of the River Tournament Wednesday at Royal Tee.

At Royal Tee: North Fort Myers senior Emily Yi shot a 42, but Charlotte prevailed in the tri-match that also included Lehigh. Charlotte (12-2) had 190 and North 225.

Charlotte’s Cassie McLeary was the medalist with 38.

North (8-2) faces Mariner and Cape Coral Thursday at Royal Tee.
