In college baseball, three states produce the most talent: California, Texas and Florida. Rivals.com recently ranked the top teams in the top three states and FGCU was No. 4 in Florida among the 13 Division I teams in the state.

Rivals.com says, “FGCU has taken a page out of Coastal Carolina’s playbook. The Eagles joined Division I last season, but is still playing under what the NCAAA calls a probationary period. That means the Eagles can’t officially win the Atlantic Sun (Conferenced) regular season or tournament titles. Even with the constraints last season, the Eagles finished first in conference with a 25-8 record. They also had an overall record of 35-18.”

The Eagles had three players selected in Major League Baseball’s amateur draft in June.

A-Sun Pitcher of the Year Richard Bleier was selected in the sixth round by the Rangers and fellow hurler Casey Coleman was a 15th-round pick of the Cubs. A-Sun Player of the Year Jason Peacock was taken by the Marlins.

In the last three seasons, FGCU has had nine players sign deals in professional baseball.
