Baker posts 14th golf win

Ida Baker senior Todd Mallorey and Riverdale’s Matt Ventriglia matched nine-hole rounds of 40 to share medalist honors Monday at Palmetto Pine Country Club, but team play was the difference as the Bulldogs posted a 166-176 victory over the Raiders.
Backing Mallorey was junior teammate Miko Dougherty with a 41 over the par-36 layout. Michael Faulkner turned in a 42 and Ryan Gallick was one stroke back at 43.
Baker (14-1) has a tough match Tuesday at Barron Collier.

Volleyball
Riverdale 3, North Fort Myers 0: Monday night’s match at Riverdale started out well for the North Fort Myers Red Knights, but went downhill quickly.
After pressuring the Raiders to the limit in the first game, North could muster little challenge in a 25-19, 25-10, 25-8 defeat.
Kayla Ramey topped the Red Knights with 10 digs while Alyssa Dougherty added nine digs and Tesla Richards was credited with five kills.
North takes a 4-7 overall record into Tuesday night’s District 5A-15 matchup at Fort Myers.

Guilford comeback snuffed: Senior quarterback Josh Vogelbach’s 20-yard touchdown pass with 1:44 left brought Guilford within striking distance Saturday, but a subsequent possession ended with 16 seconds left when Vogelbach was intercepted near midfield insuring Averett’s 31-24 victory over Guilford (2-1).
Vogelbach, who played at Bishop Verot, completed 29 of 52 passes for 327 yards and one touchdown.
Junior linebacker Richie Paul, another Bishop Verot product, led all Quakers tacklers with 13 stops.
Guilford plays at Hampden-Sydney College Saturday in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
