Blades get a Dunne deal

Defenseman Jeff Dunne, 23, has signed a contract with the Florida Everblades, president and general manager Craig Brush announced Tuesday.

Dunne jumps to the professional ranks after wrapping up a four-year collegiate career at Michigan State University that included a National Championship in 2007. Dunne contributed seven points (3g, 4a) in 37 games as a senior. He helped lead the Spartans to their third NCAA title in school history by tallying 11 points (1g, 10a) in 33 games.

The Everblades open the 2008-09 season Oct. 17 when they host the Charlotte Checkers at Germain Arena.

In other news, the Blades are taking on the Pittsburgh Penguins — in The Hockey News best logo competition.

What started with hundreds of logos has been whittled down to 16, including the Florida Everblades going head-to-head against the Penguins in the first round of fan voting.

The logo event is down to a single-elimination Sweet 16. The NHL managed to deliver a total of eight teams along with three ECHL teams.
