DAYTONA BEACH– For the first time this postseason, the Fort Myers Miracle put together nine innings of offense and got clutch pitching late in a 5-3 win over the Daytona Cubs Monday night.
With the win, the Miracle avoid being swept and extend the best-of-five Florida State League Championship series to a fourth game Tuesday night.
Juan Portes started things off with a double down the right field line and scored on Edward Ovalle’s two-run homer to left, giving the Miracle a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Ovalle turned in a defensive gem in the second, firing a strike to catcher Danny Lehmann in time to tag out Russ Canzler trying to score for the Cubs.
The Miracle scored three more in the fourth for a 5-1 lead. Whit Robbins capped the rally with a two-run blast to right.
