Blades pluck Pensacola’s Roy

Forward Mathieu Roy, who played with the Pensacola Ice Pilots as a rookie last season, has signed a contract with the Florida Everblades, the team announced Tuesday.

Roy, 21, played in 72 games for the Ice Pilots, notching 45 points (16g, 29a). Roy scored in five of his first seven games, including his first pro goal in his first pro game. Overall, he finished second on the Ice Pilots in goals, assists, and points, plus led the team with eight power play goals.

Before joining the Everblades, the 6-foot, 196-pound Roy will be attending training camp with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.

The Everblades open the 2008-09 season on Friday, Oct. 17 at Germain Arena against the Charlotte Checkers.
