Baker boys notch 4th golf victory

Ida Baker’ scored its fourth victory of the young golf season Tuesday with a 180-204 win over Cypress Lake at Palmetto Pine Country Club.

Baker’s Todd Mallorey took medalist honors with a 43 while Alan Schwocho and Michael Faulkner backed him up with 45s.

The Bulldogs (4-0) take on Cape Coral Thursday at Palmetto Pine.



Ida Baker 180 — Todd Mallorey 43, Alan Schwocho 45, Michael Faulkner 45, Miko Dougherty 47.

Cypress Lake 204 — Blake Dusenberry 44, Teft Hill 49, Ryder Albright 55, Evan Dyke 56.



At Eastwood Golf Course: Mike Maderis paced Fort Myers to a 156-181 victory over North Fort Myers with a low round of 38.

Greg Crowlle topped North players with a 41.



At Cape Royal Golf Club: Grant Burgess grabbed medalist honors with a low round of 38 to lead Mariner.

The Tritons (2-1) had four rounds of 44 or under (162 total) to coast past Cape (205) and Island Coast (251). Braden Junkins and Kyle Schulte carded matching 40s to back Burgess.

H. Halvorsen led the Seahawks with 40 while Jordan Carr turned in a 50 to top the Gators.

Girls Golf



At Cape Royal Golf Club: Wet grounds prevented teams from completing all nine holes in their season-opening match Tuesday with Cape Coral earning a victory over Mariner.

Regina Sin, one of only three players to finish, earned medalist honors with a 41 for the Seahawks. Cathy Wainey added a 53.

Madison Fletcher shot 63 for the Tritons.

Cape hosts North Fort Myers and Gulf Coast at Cape Royal next Tuesday.



At Cape Royal Golf Club: Fort Myers squeezed out a two-stroke victory, 232-234, over North Fort Myers.

Georgia Price of Fort Myers earned medalist honors by one stroke, shooting a 43, over North’s Emily Yi, with a 44.

North (0-1) faces Mariner and Bishop Verot Thursday at Cape Royal.

Volleyball



North Port 3, Mariner 0: The Tritons opened the volleyball season on the short end of a 29-27, 25-14, 25-14 home match against North Port.

Kristi Lesher had six digs and seven kills for the Tritons while Courtney Pruden added five blocks and Brooke Albert had 12 digs.

The Tritons host North Fort Myers Thursday.



Cypress Lake 3, North Fort Myers 1: The host Red Knights cruised to victory in the opening game against Cypress Lake, but the momentum shifted as the Panthers prevailed 9-25, 25-14, 25-7, 25-21.

Senior captain Kayla Ramey and senior newcomer Denasia Smith led the Red Knights.



Swimming



At Cypress Lake: Cape Coral was led by a talented group of sophomores in a tri-match win over Ida Baker and Cypress Lake.

Nick Keating picked up victories in the 200 and 100 freestyle events, and Tyler Thresher claimed wins in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.

The girls’ team also notched wins over Ida Baker and Cypress Lake. The experienced group is led by juniors Meghan Cotugno, Lauren Smith and Christina Todd.

Freshman Olivia Langford had a strong showing in her first meet. She won the 200 freestyle, and finished a close second in the 100 breastroke.
