Daily Breeze staff report, breezesports@breezenewspapers.com

Rain and lightning in the vicinity of Burton Park halted the Cape Coral Little League Softball Tournament games soon after they got started Tuesday night.

The major division Wolverines and Wildcats were playing the first inning of their semifinal game when the weather interrupted. The game was scheduled to resume at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The earlier major division game, a loser’s bracket matchup between the Noles and Vols, did finish before the weather moved in. The Noles advanced to the loser’s bracket final with an 11-1 win. The Noles await the loser of the Wolverines-Wildcats game for a Thursday contest.

Likewise, the senior division loser’s bracket game between the Noles and Cardinals was postponed until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Rain did not cause any delays at Jason Verdow Park where there were two games in the Cape Coral National baseball tournaments.

In the majors division, the Brewers knocked off the Cardinals 9-7 in the semifinals. The Cardinals drop into the loser’s bracket, where they await the winner of Wednesday’s game between the Cubs and Mets.

The Braves downed the Cubs 3-1 in a rookie division loser’s bracket game. The Braves next face the Giants at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Phillies and Brewers collide Wednesday in the rookie division semifinals.

The tee-ball tournament could determine a champion Wednesday when the Mets and Braves take the field at 6 p.m. A Mets loss would force a second title game, to be determined, in the double-elimination format.

In another game Wednesday at Verdow, the Rockies take on the Nationals in the loser’s bracket finals of the minor division. the winner meets the Reds in the championship game Thursday.
