Bulldogs rally to swipe 5-2 win

Ida Baker overcame a 2-0 deficit with a five-run rally in the fifth inning to defeat Bell County (Ky.) 5-2 Thursday night at Baker.

Blake Fraser drove in one of the five runs in the big inning with a double and Jason Eick singled to drive in two runs.

Dustin Mishka also doubled for the Bulldogs (10-8), who take on Fort Myers at noon Saturday in a makeup of a game rained out earlier this week.

Bell County plays at Mariner at 2 p.m. Friday and at Cape Coral at 7 p.m.

Mariner 12, Cypress Lake 2: Bobby O’Connor had two doubles and Ryan Schneider drove in two runs as Mariner finished its suspended game with a victory at Cypress Lake.

The game picked up in the third inning where it was suspended Tuesday with the Tritons leading 5-0. Shaun Dence pitched the final three innings, giving up three hits and striking out two to earn his third win.

Michael Zunino was 2-for-2 and scored three runs while O’Connor finished 3-for-5 and Schneider 2-for-2.

The Tritons (13-4) play a makeup game at 2 p.m. Friday against Bell County (Ky.) then head to Fort Myers for a regularly scheduled game at 7 p.m.

Bishop Verot 12, Manatee 4: Bobby Borchering continued his hot hitting in the Sarasota Baseball Classic with two more base hits and four RBI to boost Bishop Verot to the consolation bracket title over Bradenton Manatee.

Borchering failed to hit a home run after connecting in each of the first three games in the tournament. Austin Flores and Anthony Vlahovic each had two hits and two RBI.

Verot (9-10) hosts the Bud Roth Memorial Tournament starting Monday at Terry Park.

Fort Myers 9, Ida Baker 0: Sophomore Tori Mason ripped a three-run double in the second inning to spark Fort Myers to victory over Ida Baker in a game played a day later than originally scheduled because of a rainout.

Lindsey Richardson limited Baker to just three base hits and struck out 13 to record the shutout. Sierra Novo was tagged with the loss for Baker.

Cape Coral 3, Gateway Charter 1: Tara Higgins tripled to drive in two runs and Courtney Buckley added an RBI single to lift Cape Coral to victory over Gateway Charter Thursday in a makeup of a game rained out earlier in the week.

Shannon McBride posted her fifth pitching win of the season, allowing four hits and striking out six over seven innings. McBride also contributed a pair of singles.

The Seahawks (8-11) visit Lehigh Friday night.
