Red Knights coast to 14-4 victory

Michael Becker belted a solo home run and had three hits in the North Fort Myers Red Knights’ 14-4 six-inning victory over Bell County (Ky.) Monday night

Becker’s solo shot came in a three-run sixth. The Red Knights put seven runs on the board in the fifth.

Tommy Bohanon went 2-for-3 with a double and James Foster worked six innings, striking out six.

The Red Knights (6-12) visit Fort Myers Tuesday night.

Cape Coral 5, St. John Neumann 3: A pair of RBI triples by Jordan O’Day and Anthony Torres sparked the host Seahawks to a win over St. John Neumann.

The Seahawks had solid pitching throughout from freshman starter Koji Spangler. Zak Cooper and Matt Cooker came on in relief to help preserve the win.

The Seahawks (7-9) are back in action Tuesday when they host Minneapolis Southwest

Bishop Verot 10, Palmetto 4: Bobby Borchering lashed two extra-base hits, including a solo home run in the first inning, and Austin Flores ripped a two-run triple to lead Bishop Verot to victory over Palmetto in the first round of the Sarasota Classic.

Josh Hinkle contributed a pair of singles and three RBI for the Vikings, who face Charlotte at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the winner’s bracket.

Cape Coral 8, Riverdale 4: Cape Coral High concluded the regular season with a win over Riverdale in what Seahawks coach Laurie Zinn defined as a “physical and aggressive” game.

The Seahawks took charge in the first half, building a 6-0 lead. They sustained a consistent level of play in the second half utilizing their deeper bench.

Rachel Groening scored three goals to lead the attack. Jamie Whetsell tallied two goals, and Brittany Russell, Carly Boscarino and Brittany Schnable each scored one. Boscarino led the team in interceptions with seven and Ashley Castro added five.

Tara Murza made 13 saves.

The Seahawks (4-5), in their second varsity season, qualified for the playoffs for the first time. They’ll face either Bishop Verot or Fort Myers April 14.



Rugby



Cape Coral 32, Naples 0: Cape Coral cruised past Naples Saturday. The Black Hawks, in its inaugural season, is gearing up for its first playoff game Saturday at Jupiter.

The Black Hawks (5-2) are made up of 26 players from Cape Coral, Mariner and North Fort Myers high schools coached by Phil Luby.

Against Naples, the Black Hawks got two scores from Niko Price. Austin Luby, Ryan Pigott and Tyler Adline also scored.

The Black Hawks take on Jupiter (7-0-1) at 2 p.m. Saturday.
