Tritons fall 6-5 despite Zunino HRs

Michael Zunino hit a pair of home runs, his sixth and seventh of the season, but the Mariner Tritons lost 6-5 in 10 innings Tuesday night at Lehigh.

Zunino, a junior, connected on a solo shot in the first and added a two-run homer in the third. He was intentionally walked twice.

Lehigh scored four runs in the first and got home runs from Jose Vidal and Tim Nelson.

The Tritons rallied and went ahead in the top of the 10th on an RBI single by Jake Weber, but the Lightning answered with two in the bottom half.

The Tritons (10-4) host Minneapolis Southwest Friday.

Ft. Myers 3, Ida Baker 1: Dustin Mishka cracked a solo home run in the fourth inning to bring Ida Baker back within one run, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs lost to Fort Myers Tuesday.

Anton Dapcic tossed a two-hitter for the Green Wave with 11 strikeouts. The win the 29th of Dapcic’s career, tying the school’s all-time record.

Brenda Collins and Ethan Drew connected on RBI singles for the Green Wave and Bryant Tinsley added a sacrifice fly.

Baker’s Shaun Delozier struck out nine and allowed five hits with no earned runs.

The Green Wave (13-2) play at Cypress Lake Thursday while Baker (7-8) hosts Estero Thursday.

Mariner 15, Lehigh 2: Freshman Samantha Greenwell broke out of a hitting slump with a pair of hits and scored two runs in the Tritons’ win over host Lehigh.

Sophomore Nikki Roderiques went five innings and struck out six. She contributed at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double.

The Tritons (8-8) are participating in the Tarpon Classic Friday and Saturday. They open play Friday at 2 p.m. against Charlotte.

Bishop Verot 16, Dunbar 5: The Vikings improved to 4-0 in District 3A-12 play with a five-inning victory over Dunbar.

Allie Mitchell (3-for-3) had a triple and drove in four runs. Paris Prusak scored three runs and Jordan Hendrix picked up the win on the mound.

The Vikings (13-7) play at Cape Coral Thursday.
