By Staff | Mar 21, 2008

Daily Breeze staff report, breezesports@breezenewspapers.com

The Mariner Tritons sprayed 14 base hits, including a two-run home run by A.J. Reyes in the first inning, en route to a crucial 10-1 victory over District 5A-15 foe Gulf Coast Thursday night.

Besides cracking the home run that put the Tritons ahead to stay, Reyes (5-1) pitched six solid innings, allowing five hits with two strikeouts. Reyes (2-for-4) finished with three RBI

The victory virtually locks up the district’s No. 2 seed for the Tritons.

Angel Laborda (2-for-2) smacked a pair of doubles and scored three runs for the Tritons while Michael Zunino (3-for-4) had a pair of doubles with one RBI and two runs scored.

James Carroll added a double and two RBI while Brian O’Connor and Jake Weber each contributed a pair of singles.

Jessica Gregorie went all eight innings and struck out six for the Bulldogs, who saw their 11-game winning streak come to an end.
