By Staff | May 31, 2009

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Ali Gardiner hit a walk-off grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the seventh as top-seeded Florida stunned Alabama 6-5 Sunday night to advance to the championship round of the Women’s College World Series for the first time.

Gardiner sent a 2-1 pitch from Alabama ace Kelsi Dunne (28-5) the opposite way, clearing the left-field fence as Whitney Larsen fell over the top as she tried to make a game-saving catch.

The Gators (63-3) won for the 29th straight time and will face either third-seeded Washington or sixth-seeded Georgia in the best-of-three championship series beginning Monday night.

Alabama (54-11) had rallied for four runs with two outs in the fourth against Stacey Nelson, who leads the nation with an 0.39 ERA. Stephanie Brombacher (22-0) got the win in relief.
