FSU women upset No. 3 Duke in OT
TALLAHASSEE (AP) – Florida State has vaulted to the top spot of the Atlantic Coast Conference team standings.
The outside shooting of Seminole senior guards Tanae Davis-Cain and Mara Freshour brought down No. 3 Duke 82-75 in overtime Thursday to give No. 18 Florida State sole possession of first in the ACC for the first time since joining the league in the 1991-1992 season.
Freshour scored a season-high 21 points, including a three-pointer that tied the score at 68 to send the game into overtime while Davis-Cain and junior center Jacinta Monroe added 17 points each.
The 82 points are nearly 30 more than the Blue Devils (17-2, 5-1 ACC) have given up on average this year.
It is Florida State’s second win in their past 22 games against Duke, but beating ranked teams has become a familiar achievement for the Seminoles.
The Seminoles (18-4, 6-0) haven’t lost since an 83-71 defeat to No. 1 UConn in a Christmas tournament in Cancun, Mexico.
