Wade, Heat stifle Lakers

By Staff | Dec 20, 2008

MIAMI (AP) – Dwyane Wade got his offensive touch back. More importantly, the Miami Heat brought a level of defense the Los Angeles Lakers simply hadn’t seen this season.

Wade scored 35 points, including a desperation three-pointer to close the third quarter, and the Heat held the Lakers to their lowest scoring total this season in knocking off the reigning Western Conference champions 89-87 Friday night.

Kobe Bryant scored 28 points for the Lakers (21-4), including a spinning jumper from the left side of the lane that drew his team within 88-86 with 41.7 seconds left.

Wade and Joel Anthony blocked potentially game-tying shots in the lane on the next Lakers’ possession, and after Bryant’s 15-foot fadeaway rimmed out as time expired, the Heat (13-12) could celebrate snapping a three-game slide.

Daequan Cook scored 14 points and Shawn Marion had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Miami, which saw most of a 12-point lead entering the fourth disappear.

Pau Gasol had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who also got 13 points from Derek Fisher.
