Exhibits in the art gallery: October continues to have three talented artists exhibiting together. Honey Costa began creating her watercolors in Pennsylvania at the Baum School of Art over 20 years ago. Later, living aboard a 37-foot sailboat, she sailed the picturesque islands of the West Indies and South America with her husband, and that trip opened a whole new world of color and subject matter. Costa is an award-writing artist both locally and nationally. Her art can be viewed at home by private appointment and her works are featured at the Seaweed Galleries on Sanibel and Captiva, Crossed Palms Gallery in Bokeelia, Pine Island, and the Katherine Butler Gallery in Sarasota.
At age 15, Anisa Steward began apprenticing for an award-winning jewelry designer in Southwest Florida. She worked for him for 16 years, winning four national design awards, and then decided to go out on her own and design from her heart. She is an avid outdoor person and boater. The inspiration for her designs come from countless hours of boating from the Keys to Tampa, enjoying all the abundant wildlife and sea life the area has to provide, as well as the rolling waves of the Gulf of Mexico. Her work is hand-carved in wax, cast into 14 K gold and non-tarnish sterling silver, and set with precious and semi-precious stones. Her work is meant to be worn and last a lifetime.
Photographer Marcy Nase was born in Southampton, N.Y., and she became captivated by the tropical wonders of Southwest Florida when her family bought a Cape Coral lot from the Gulf American Corp. in the ’60s. The Rose Garden and Waltzing Waters drew the crowds, but Marcy found that the palm trees and sandy beaches filled with glorious birds captured her fancies. After living in several cities throughout the United States, she moved here in 1989, built her house on that original lot, and was pleasantly surprised to find a neighborhood that shares its homes with multiple burrowing owl nests. She finds endless joy in capturing photographic wonders for us all to appreciate.
Judy Van Inwegen, originally from the state of New York, discovered Cape Coral six years ago and decided to stay and make her home here. Her interest in glass art began like man other glass artists … in stained glass. As her enthusiasm and skill level increased, so did her desire to try something different, and next came the introduction of “fused glass.” Her work has been accepted in many exhibitions and juried shows in Southwest Florida.
