To the editor:

“Voters don’t care about any of this kind of senseless stuff” At least that’s what Connie Mack thinks about Republican, congressional hopeful Trey Radel’s most recent domain name scandal. Of late, Trey has admitted to the charges that his company, Trey Enterprises, LLC, registered a number of profane domain names between 2001 and 2005, but in his own response sent to supporters just hours after the story broke, Trey is quoted as saying, “I wear this as a badge of honor.”

I wonder if we, voters of southwest Florida, really don’t care about this kind of thing. I am inclined to think we do and I’ll tell you why. Even if this scandal turns out to be a minor vacation from moral behavior, the voters of southwest Florida know that character is formed in daily decisions, not through rhetoric. We can learn a thing or two about empty rhetoric from President Obama.

The mess we have in Washington is a result of overlooking the little things that are indicative of a politician’s true character. Radel views this current scandal as a badge of honor; I view it as an opportunity to see his true colors.
