Who benefits?
To the editor:
How can we, the residents and taxpayers, trust those in power?
The city manager spends money on his wife and wives of council members, even after being told it is a violation of City Policy. It doesn’t matter what budget it came from. It is still a violation. Taxpayer dollars should never be spent on the wives.
I find it hard to believe that this expenditure was worthwhile. Councilman Deile quoted some obscure part of the administrative section of Cape Ordinances. Obviously, he will say anything to justify the expenditure for his wife, as does Councilman Brandt.
I would still like to know who paid for the helicopter tour of the Cape. That has not been answered, nor brought up in any discussion.
I question how this will benefit the city tax wise. We need to attract businesses that will pay taxes. Not the Federal Government, that pays no taxes.
Why do we need connections in Washington to further our economic development, when the government pays no taxes? Are we to become a military city? We need to remember that the government pays no taxes on property it owns.
I can understand that there might, and I emphasize MIGHT, be benefits, such as people buying homes, more use of local businesses and more military retirees coming to Cape Coral.
Those are long shots at best.
Public Trust has gone downhill since the last election.
