Students should not be penalized for not raising money for schools
To the editor:
Friday, May 13, was field day at Lehigh Acres Middle School. My daughter was not allowed to attend nor were hundreds of other students. Why? Because they did not participate in a school fundraiser! No student that did not go hawk the school merchandise (cookie dough) was allowed to attend. This is not right. Field day was held at the park behind the school, during normal school hours, all students attending that school should have been allowed to go. My daughter, or any other child, should not be punished because she/they failed to go out and peddle merchandise to raise money for the school.
I spoke by telephone to the principal of Lehigh Middle School and he said outright, if a student does not participate in fundraisers to raise money for this school they will not participate in field days.
Requiring our children to go out and peddle the school merchandise in order to attend a public school function is an outrage!
