If you want change, run for office

By Staff | Jul 3, 2009

To the editor:

Whatever happened to empathy as the ability to share in another’s emotions, thoughts, or feelings. The keyword is “share.” Agree? To put yourself in your neighbor’s shoes? To treat others the same way you would want to be treated? To be respectful and frugal with our money, the residents; of Cape Coral?

Do you feel that all council members sympathize with your situation? Councilwoman Bertolini is quoted as saying “You’ll have your opportunity to come to speak to us.” She must be talking about the council meeting on July 20, when each one of us gets three minutes citizens input or 30 minutes total. Let’s all be there. Let’s see if our voices will indeed be heard.(ie: utility expansion)

If you really want to make a difference, be a candidate. Elections are right around the corner. Elections will be for a mayor, plus district 1, 4, 6 council members. Go for it. Let’s stop the never-ending spending of our money without our consent. We need more common sense and empathy. District 5 council position is not available otherwise I would be running.
