To the editor:

President Obama, in his initial venture into the difficult area of top judicial appointments, has demonstrated the cool calculated approach that has become his trademark.

Sonia Sotomayor brings outstanding intellectual credentials and the sorely needed perspective of a Latino and another woman to better balance and provide an insight heretofore unseen on this, the nation’s highest and perhaps most independent decision making body.

The loyal opposition would be well served to consider the importance of a fair and balanced judiciary as being paramount to the integrity of the government, the security of the nation, and far more important than partisan political priorities.
