Planting the seeds for grassroots effort

By Staff | Mar 28, 2009

To the editor:

There is so much sniping going on about individuals in these letters that it gets to be disgusting. Everyone seems to be so wrapped up in themselves Issues to the point would clear the air and make this a much better community. Think about it.

I’m saying that, not only in Cape Coral, but all over the country, we all need to get back to grass roots. We need to get down to earth and back to basics. We need to take heed from other communities and put to use what works.

Walmart uses the slogan of rolling back prices. Publix, Sweet Bay, Albertsons, Winn-Dixie all need to roll back prices. Not just for a weekly special, but over the long haul. The major grocery chains should have a Senior Day where there would be a 20 to 25 percent off on the total bill.

Think how this would drive up business. There needs to be a Day Old type of bread/bakery store in the central part of the Cape. Barter among your friends and neighbors. What’s happened to the neighbor boy helping out or cutting grass?

Various groups need to step up to the plate such as churches, schools, neighborhood communities, stores, etc. Call it community service.

Let’s bring back some of the good things of the past. Neighbor helping neighbor. We can make this work. With grass roots groups all over the country, we can pull ourselves out of this economic slump.
