Council needs to adopt fertilizer ordinance
To the editor:
Cape Coral has a population of nearly 170,000 residents They maintain more than 200,000 lawns counting businesses that have lawns. If these people are not fertilizing properly, the fertilizer goes directly into our canals and eventually into the river creating huge algae blooms and red tide which kills our fish and plant life. When this happens the tourists leave and we lose vast amount of tourist dollars? Not to speak of making our canals look a mess and fouling our clean water.
Please contact your council person and ask them to support and adopt the fertilizer ordinance which hopefully will be present to them shortly. Stress to them that it needs to be brought up now because we need to help stop the red tide and algae blooms that may appear this summer.
