Change warranted
To the editor:
As an adjunct to Peter Hare’s letter of Jan. 31, a few additional comments are in order
First, I agree with Mr. Hare that our county school administration is a travesty, to put it mildly. With one notable exception (Chilmonik) the school board and superintendent are so inane and incompetent as to make the “Keystone Kops:” seem like Rhodes scholars!
I have been pointing out the above for the last two elections; however, some of the press and many of the voters have been oblivious to the warnings – re-electing the same useless bunch.
And while I agree that the FCAT exams are of limited benefit, as well as a deterrent to the teaching system, I beg to differ concerning the SAT and ACT tests. Those worthies will often highlight true geniuses although promising college students will often be stuck with “adequate” scores, because the tests are timed to favor only speed-readers. I am a case in point.
In sum, as long as we are saddled with the current school administration, we will continue to pay for a CRAY computer and only get an abacus!
