Let unemployed fill in where needed
To the editor:
Since the economy is so bad and many people lost their jobs, would it be possible for people who are collecting welfare and unemployment benefits who are capable of working to at least fill in for jobs with the city, state or county and therefore support some programs that budgets can no longer fulfill? It may be a way to ease the problems we cannot afford at these times. This was done along time ago in California during the Reagan governorship when so many Californians receiving benefits were causing the state to go broke. After this program was instituted, the welfare rolls in California diminished by 80 percent and those who were really physically unable to work received an increase in benefits. Just a thought.
