Failing to seat Stout a PR nightmare

By Staff | Dec 20, 2008

To the editor:

Having retired from advertising, I tend to view circumstances for their PR value and impact. And, thus, it is with the Marilyn Stout affair vs. the local Republican Committee. Totally aside from the details of the case, the PR gives aid and comfort to our enemies.

The case itself is simple according to media reports; Mrs. Stout received 73 percent of the vote for State Committee woman and Gary Lee et al have refused to seat her.

It sounds like North Korean politics or even worse, Minnesota politics. Worse still, it will drag on through the media and the courts and make Republicans look petty and pathetic if not un-American. It is a case of technicalities and nobody at local or state level seems to grasp the implications and damage the case does to our image.

There must be some diplomatic solution, some rule gently bent should resolve it without a media blood bath and the fact that this was not so resolved does more damage.
