Save the trees
To the editor:
It now appears that the city will require thousands of trees planted over the last 30 years on the power line side of the streets in violation of city ordinances to be removed. In many situations the trees planted in the easement area are farther away from the power lines than if they were to be planted in the non-easement areas of the property owner’s lots. Failing to remove the trees will result in significant fines.
Rational plans to save the trees and have property owner’s be responsible for trimming their own trees continue to be blocked by a city counsel that appears to be unwilling to stand up to LCEC. LCEC has had significant input into the drafting of the current ordinance.
Residents unite and save the trees. Cape Coral will become more desolate and ugly than it is without the trees.
