Cape Coral disgraceful!

By Staff | Nov 11, 2008

To the editor:

Pomposity, arrogance and disrespect have become the overwhelming characteristics of the Cape’s government and explains why discord and indecision are running rampant. On Oct. 19, 2008, I wrote to the mayer, each council member and the city manager. The letter concerned a man who for 23 years has contributed greatly to the betterment of Cape Coral and who richly deserves special recognition. The letter clearly spelled out the hard work, accomplishments and many benefits to the city… and asked for a response from all parties.

On Nov. 3, the Mayor’s office finally called with a subordinate expressing the mayor’s opinion which, I felt, was completely unfair. The council members and the city manager have ignored my request for a response. Obviously, we now have a group that simply doesn’t understand the meaning of “public servant.”

The issue is not agreeing or disagreeing with the premise of the letter… it’s a matter of simple civility. It’s the intellect to be able to distinguish between rudeness and professionalism. In short, if these people care about whether we believe they understand their job. If their heads have not become too big for their hats. And, if they have any interest in my support in the future… it would be a good idea to call me, without delay. The council and the city manager should never be too busy to be civil, show respect and recognize good works.
