Use of full name is not disrespectful of Scott

By Staff | Oct 11, 2008

To the editor:

Now the feds are weighing a complaint, according to newspaper headlines. It all started when Sheriff Scott referred to Barack’s full name, Barack “Hussein” Obama and the ACLU and NAACP went up in arms. There are two options: If the sheriff omits the middle name: How dare you omit the middle name? Or if he includes it: How dare you use the name?

It makes me wonder, since when did the ACLU and NAACP started showing interest in national policy and want daily reports?

For your information, the name “Hussein” is used for first, middle, or last names. King Hussein of Jordan, Saddam Hussein, the late Iraqi dictator.

As for the ACLU and NAACP, their knowledge of the Arabic language, customs, and history from one to 10 is zero zero zero. I was born raised and educated in Greece and part of our education was foreign countries, especially Middle East, Mediterranean and Europe.

I did write to Sheriff Scott questioning why he was not “well informed” about the illegals working in the new county jail and some other things. His answer did border on low-level double talk. I also did not see any discrimination or offense pronouncing Obama’s first, middle and last name.

What is the sheriff supposed to call Obama — mister, sir?
