To the editor:

I just don’t understand how opening up the mayoral seat to the public for the remaining one-year term is going to transition smoothly or with continuity. Those members who wanted to restrict the appointment to current council members and then open the vacated council seat to the public were right on, in my opinion. 

Anyone who has attended or watched televised council meetings can see that becoming familiar with procedures and protocol is not acquired overnight. There are current council members perfectly qualified to step into this position who already have up-to-date knowledge of agenda items and a good sense of where to research information on same. If you think ll p.m. is a “little” long for a council meeting, you may be in for more of the same. Take a look at the current list of applicants so far, you will recognize former “spoilers.” Ladies and gentlemen, the circus is coming to town!!
