Instant citizenship to the illegals?
To the editor:
“We need more bilingual officers.” — an editorial in a daily newspaper on Sept. 9. It was a well prepared but controversial editorial spiced with a wee double talk about illegals and Spanish-speaking law officers.
It was an insult and slap to the face of legal immigrants as well as readers.
I am a legal immigrant and I can assure you, no one did bend the law for us, we did not demand translators or mail our dollars south of the border. We learned English with a cute accent and adapted ourselves to our new country.
The Census Bureau estimates 14 percent of our population in Lee County speaks Spanish! They must strongly believe we will submit to their demands.
Did any of you readers wonder how many law officers speak French or German or any other language? My guess is no more than 1 or 2 percent. But over 100 speak Spanish and there is a strong effort to recruit more a/k/a extra expenses and discrimination to the rest of us.
It is a crime when people try to push their will on the majority. I pray there will not be any retaliation from people losing their jobs to the illegals.
The Greeks have a very wise proverb. “You cannot use a glass ewer forever. Sooner or later you will break it.” Collier County has a smaller population than Lee County but they have beyond imagination strength and willpower to give the green light to Sheriff Hunter to uproot the illegals and he did not disappoint them. Sheriff Scott, you now have the numbers, 90 percent of the votes. Make the move and we will support you blindly.
Otherwise you will hear people screaming: Sheriff Hunger, where are you? We need you in Lee County. We need you badly.
